In an extensive effort to visualize changes in the strategic outlook for Europe should Russia win, Institute for the Study of War has published a number of maps projecting, in particular, fundamental changes in the situation in Central Europe.
It may be worthwhile to zoom in on that part of the map to see what might happen if Ukraine loses the war. It should help convince the US and countries such as — Hungary — what is at stake.
The big difference in the ISW projections affects Hungary and other central European powers neighbouring Ukraine. Air defence battle over Central Europe rather than over Eastern Ukraine, big Russian troop presence in the Western part of Ukraine, forcing NATO to increase further its presence in the area. And Moldova in the middle, more vulnerable than ever.
