The Royal Swedish Academy of War Sciences is a modern academy with a mission to foster sciences of importance to Swedish national security. By creating, collecting and disseminating knowledge the Members of the Academy contribute and inspire to increased competence and debate in regard to national security and defense policies. Sweden needs its citizens, its private sector leaders, all local and regional politicians and officials, and its lawmakers and government officials to have a deep understanding of our nation’s security position, the capabilities of our civil and military defense, its resources and economy. It is part of the Academy’s mission to actively enhance such competence.

Sweden faces serious threats and security policy challenges. Robust responses (Swedish: SVAR) are required in terms of capabilities, deterrence and resilience. The project will until the end of 2025 study how these goals can be met in a sustainable way in cooperation within the EU and NATO. Follow the projectâs website in Swedish and English

The war in Ukraine
The Presidium of the Royal Swedish Academy of War Sciences stands strongly behind the sovereignty of every nation, which includes the right to make its own security choices. It condemns the Russian war launched on the democratic state of Ukraine. It is an unprovoqued attack which has been carried out in clear conflict with the principles of international law. Attacks on civil population and hospitals are totally unacceptable and Russia has for long time gravely condemned itself in the eyes of the world. The Russian war should cease immediately and the Russian military forces have to leave the territory of Ukraine without further delay.
