Kungl Krigs­veten­skaps­akademien grundades 1796 av general­löjtnanten, friherre Gustaf Wilhelm af Tibell.

Akademien ska främja vetenskaper av betydelse för fäderneslandets försvar samt följa och bevaka forskning och utveckling av betydelse för rikets säkerhet och försvar.

Akademiens vilja är att, som en oberoende institution, bidra till och delta i försvars- och säkerhetsdebatten.

Tibellska fonden är öppen för att stödja Akademiens verksamhet som ett vetenskapligt instrument inom säkerhets- och försvarsområdet.

Björn Andersson is a Major General and has been a member of the Academy since 1994. He belongs to Section I and was ekected Permanent Secretary of the Academy in 2009.

General Andersson was appointed Second Lieutenant in the Armoured Corps in 1969 and was CO of the Skaraborg Regiment (Sw. designation: P4/Fo 35) from 1993 to 1995. During the years 200 to 2001, General Andersson was head of  Military Science at the Swedish National Defence College. General Andersson retired from the Swedish Armed Forces in 2005 after being CO of the Northern Military District.

Within the Swedish Armed Forces, General Andersson has participated in organizational and command investigations/studies.

Among other things, General Andersson has been chairman of the board of the Baltic Defence College and the Non-Profit Officers’ Support Association, as well as being a board member of  the National Properties Organization for Historical Museums and Military Barracks.

Gunnar Magnusson is a Lieutenant Colonel and has been a member of the Academy since 1990. Col. Magnusson belongs to Section I.

Colonel Magnusson retired from the Armed Forces in 2008 and was then serving at the Armed Forces Headquarters as chief of staff at the Finance Staff. Col.Magnusson was appointed Second Lieutenant at the Jämtland Regiment in 1969. In 1987, Colonel Magnusson was a Member of the Royal College of Defence Studies in London. From 1988 to 1990, Colonel Magnusson was was chief of staff of the 13. Divisional HQ, and from 1990 to 1991 he was CO of the Malmö Brigade (Sw. designation: PB 7).

From 1991 to 1992, Colonel Magnusson commanded the Swedish UN contingent in Lebanon. After his return from Lebanon he served at the Armed Forces’ Headquarters until his retirement.

From 2000 to 2004, Colonel Magnusson studied law at Stockholm University while simultaneously holding a post at the Armed Forces’ Headquarters. In 2004, he became a graduate in Law.

Colonel Magnusson was elected Deputy Secretary of the Academy in 2009.

TOMMY JEPPSSON

Tommy Jeppsson is a Lieutenant Colonel. Colonel Jeppsson has been a member of the Academy since 2004 and belongs to Section V. Colonel Jeppsson became an officer in 1974 at the Norrland Logistics Regiment in Sollefteå. He served during three periods in positions from platoon commander to battalion commander. He has fulfilled advanced military training and education in Sweden and in Norway. His has a great interest in strategic and security-political matters and has served as a teacher/lecturer in Strategy at Forsvarets Stabsskole in Norway and at the Swedish and Finnish National Defence Colleges, respectively. Colonel Jeppsson has also taken part in international service in the Middle East, in Africa and in the Balkans.

Colonel Jeppsson was elected Editor for the Academy’s Proceedings and Journal in 2007.
